What is the BEA Certified Developer Program?
The BEA Certified Developer program provides a rigorous technical qualification (written and/or hands-on testing) for specific IT job roles, allowing for increased career opportunities for employees and greater competitiveness for employers. The program features job role-based curriculum paths that provide a clear, logical framework for attaining the skills you need to help you excel in your particular IT field.

What are the benefits of being BEA certified?
Certification benefits both employees and employers. . By earning the certification you can translate the impressive knowledge and skill you worked so hard to accumulate into a credential that can lead to greater job security or more challenging, better paying opportunities and greater job satisfaction. Candidates passing BEA Certified exams also receive a Certified Welcome Kit containing a welcome letter, the BEA Certified Developer logo graphics files (for use on your business cards, etc.), a BEA Certified Developer certificate and gift.

How do I become certified?
To become an BEA Certified you must pass the respective exam(s) for the certification track. We strongly recommend (but do not require) that you take the courses associated with each track before taking the certification exam(s). Practice tests are also available to you for most certifications.

Do I have to take the courses in order to be certified?
You are not required to take the courses in order to be certified; however, you are required to pass all applicable certification exams. We recommend that you attend the suggested courses and take the practice tests to better prepare yourself for the certification examinations.

What are the prerequisites to be certified?
We recommend taking the WLS-D11, WLS-D21 and WLS-A11 courses but do not require them. We strongly recommend that a candidate have 3-6 months experience with WebLogic Server. We no longer require Sun Java Certification. We have streamlined the requirements and candidates now encouraged to have the Sun Java Programmer Certification but it is no longer a requirement This change became effective June 1, 2001

How do I maintain my certification?
Your certification will last as long as you keep your certification current. Current means that you have passed the current or recent previous version of the test. For example,if the WebLogic 6.0 exam is the current exam, you would be current if you passed it or the 5.1 version. If you had passed the 4.51 version you would no longer be current.

Once I pass my test how long will it take to receive my welcome kit?
Each candidate must fill out a short form on the BEA Certification web page to become certified. This information is used for our database and to enroll the candidate into the Developer Program. Kits should be received within 3-6 weeks after the application is submitted

What is jCert?
The jCert Initiative, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed by major high-tech companies IBM, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, BEA Systems, Hewlett-Packard, Sybase and iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, A Sun-Netscape Alliance to establish and promote industry standards for the certification of Enterprise Developers using Java(tm) technology. The intent of jCert is to provide a ready supply of trained Java technology developers to meet the explosive demand for enterprise applications in the rapidly expanding e-commerce market.

Are we involved in jCert? If so, how?
Yes, we are a founding member and hold a seat on the board of directors. BEA also has a certification test at the Enterprise Developer level.

When will we have a test for jCert?
The BEA WebLogic Certified Developer exam is available currently.

How do I take the test?
Simply sign up through the Prometric web site (2test.com) or through the 800 number (877-205-6873).

Why did we use Prometric?
Prometric is the leader is proctored testing for the high tech industry and they are a supporter of the jCert initiative. As the leader they also had the greatest distribution of testing centers worldwide.

How can I find a Prometric Testing Center?
Centers can be located through Prometric web site (www.2test.com)

What is the plan for the next test?
We are in the process of evaluating what the next test will be. When a decision is made it will be announced on our web page and through the Developer's Center.

Will there be more tests?
